Dutchess Man Assaults, Injures Three Cops Trying To Bring Him Into Custody

A 20-year-old man wanted for assault was arrested after attempting to flee three officers attempting to interview him, injuring three in the process, police said.

LaGrange resident Juan Carlos Alvarez-Lopez was approached by officers from the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 23, following a report of a suspicious person around Main Street in Arlington.

According to police, officers located Alvarez-Lopez on Main Street, and while speaking with him, Alvarez-Lopez was told by investigators that he was to be detained for further investigation, at which point he took off on foot.

Police said that Alvarez-Lopez was located nearby, and when officers attempted to bring him into custody, he began to resist arrest and fought back, leaving three officers with minor injuries that were treated at a nearby hospital.

Further investigation into Alvarez-Lopez found that he had an active felony warrant for his arrest in the City of Poughkeepsie.

Alvarez-Lopez was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest. He is currently being held pending his arraignment.
